Some advice on where to place a data point

Folks,

Good afternoon! Hope you're all doing well.

I have a question: Cliff have a data point ("Anonymous Marking Code") that every student needs to have in the system, which identifies them on their Exam Board grids and similar places. It needs to be different than their CampusID, and be placed somewhere that it can be easily sectioned-off with Permissions so that there's minimal risk of Instructors and/or Administrators with anything less than "all access" seeing it. Essentially it needs to be hidden from pretty much everyone except the Administrator who puts it in the system, so there's no risk of those who mark assignments (some of whom do have limited administrator access) seeing it and being able to identify students by their code.

Any suggestions for where this might live that would fit the bill?

Thanks for your help!

Righto, I'll make an executive decision - lets put this in Student > Academics > Academic Standing, at the top of the subsection. We don't use that for anything else, so Allison can turn view/edit permissions for that subsection off for everyone who doesn't need to see it.

If the field could be called "Anonymous Marking Code" that would be great.

Work around

That would be a work around to just use the existing security permissions to restrict it but it obviously does not match for being related.

Where would the ideal location be? My first guess would be to put it next to the HUSID in the top section or in the Academics>Personal Information>Profile section near the Historical ID and CAS Number.

In both cases the field will need to be added to the group security as a value the is independently able to be given permissions of view/edit etc.

Yup, I'd be fine with that -

Yup, I'd be fine with that - as long as we can restrict very closely who can see/edit it, that would work fine!

Solution

Hello,
This has been added to academics/student/personal information as "Anonymous Marking Code". It has a security setting in groups to allow it to be enabled or disabled at the group level.

It was uploaded to ntc-m dev server and Alain said he emailed you Rob so you can check it out.  If it does what is needed the update will be added to the next system update.
