@choward SOLUTION

Hello,

If an Aid Source has a Aid Type of Gift Aid it will apply the funds to the Gift Aid section of the Needs Analysis only.  This is due to the definition of Gift Aid being funds that go towards need only.

Self Help Aid designation will show up on Self Help Aid section of the Needs Analysis and goes towards replacing the EFC. (if they have need it will help with need).

Gift Aid or Self Help Aid  will apply as much of the scholarship as it can to Gift Aid but it can also go towards replacing the EFC.

If a student does not have need but receives an Aid source that is Gift Aid, the system will ask you to fix the award since they are receiving funds that they do not qualify for... based on need designation.

Gift Aid - Meets Need only

Self Help Aid - Replaces EFC, is not based on Need but will also cause error if the total aid is higher than the students full COA.

Gift Aid or Self Help Aid - This will apply towards Gift Aid first but if there is no need then it can still help replace the EFC.

School Scholarships.  If an aid source is for needy students only (based on Federal Methodology) then Gift Aid is the right designation.  If a school scholarship is not strictly need based using (Federal Methodology) then "Gift aid or Self Help Aid" is good.
