I thought that all new students were going to have a entry year automatically assigned to their record. Did I misunderstand as all our new Spring 21 new students do not have a entry year assigned.

It tries to. It looks up what is entered in expected entry year in term, and if it matches something, then it will default it.
But, what is being entered in prospect is 2021, and not 2020-2021, so it doesnt match. This field in prospect is meant be what to expect, so it is flexible, and may not always match. Some may not enter when expected.
