Is there a way to mark individual Degree Tracks/Majors as inactive as opposed to an entire student record?

For example, we have a student who studied as a Semester Abroad student, and has returned to undertake Masters level study. The 'Semester Abroad' Major record has an end-date, a reason for ending, and a classification, but because the student is still active as an MA student, if I Advanced Search by Major (or run reports based on this) she will still appear as a 'Semester Abroad' student. 

This is mostly problematic for our Nazarene Ministers, who have completed Undergraduate courses and then return for Casual Student study. Because they're still active (even though all the 'completed' tags are filled in for their Undergraduate study) they pop up if I search for 'BA Theology' students, etc, even though the finished there degree years ago.

Is there a way to mark Majors as inactive (or have this trigger if 'End Date' is in the past?) so this doesn't occur?
